I’ve been to the edge and back
May 13, 2008
My thoughts are always clearer after a jog. After another frustrating day at the office I slapped on my running shoes and went for a run. My head started to clear up almost right away.
The problem is that I’m having trouble finding where I belong on the team. As the editor, I keep the newsroom busy doing work. But what do I do when they are doing that? Not being able to put a finger on that is something that can drive you over the edge. Fortunately, I turned back and headed home before I got to that point
Start on the usual path through the woods. Over the tracks, over the bridge and up to Teknikerbyen. Along Skodsborgvej and take your second left. Along a roller-coaster road that mostly goes up, take the stairs, make a quick left and jog by Søllerød Kro – one of Denmark’s oldest restaurants – if not the oldest. Take a right and stop at the top of the path called Hjulvejen. Backtrack to Søllerødvej, and take it until you get to the forest. Find your way through the forest until you get back to Skodsborgvej. Pass through Teknikerbyen again and retrace your route home. 6.5+ km. Sunny and clear, but cool. Slight pain in the knee.
Tour de Suisse
May 12, 2008
I saw the motivation for this one coming from a mile away. My wife had run a Mother’s Day jog and I cheered her on. When I got home, it seemed as if my running shoes laced themselves to my feet. It was hot, and there wasn’t a breath of air, so I tried to find a path that was mostly in the woods. Settled on ‘Den danske Schweiz’ (the Danish Switzerland), so-named for its ’steep’ slopes. The forest is nice at any time of year, but on a warm day it is especially refreshing.
Head towards Islandsvej, up the stairs and take a left. Pass the waterworks, up the hill and turn right on the road just before the horsefarm. If you need to catch your breath on this stretch, slow down to admire the sheep. Slip into the woods just after the farmhouse and continue on the path under the train bridge. Take a right and head back to Ørholm and the waterworks along the path that follows the tracks. Cross the road, follow the stream, cross the bridge and head home by the usual route.
